  • A New Year Means New Favorites!

By Brendan Carr on Monday, January 25, 2016

    NewCollections.jpg -

The start of a new year means messy winter weather most everywhere. But a new year also signals the start of yearnings for spring. Thoughts of warmer temps, sunny days, the joys of spending time outside fill our thoughts every time we shovel the sidewalk or scrape ice off of a windshield. To help kick those spring feelings into full swing, Dansko introduces four new footwear collections for Spring ’16!

    • A New Year Means New Favorites! - Shop The Dijon Collection

      Dijon Collection

The new Dijon collection transitions effortlessly from a day at play to a night on the town. Incorporating natural elements like wood-covered block heels into each design, this collection offers the comfort and style that defines Dansko shoes.

    • A New Year Means New Favorites! - Shop The Larose Collection

      Larose Collection

Pairing hand-burnished leather uppers with a suede-covered footbed, our Larose collection is ready to impress the most style-conscious customer. A trend-right low block heel adds to the charm and femininity of this new spring collection.

    • A New Year Means New Favorites! - Shop The Bayview Collection

      Bayview Collection

Building off of Dansko’s knack for delivering all-day comfort and on-trend style, the Bayview collection updates sporty designs with patterns, colors and features that please on every level. Lightweight construction, a footbed with memory foam and exceptional arch support make this collection an ideal choice active lifestyles.

    • A New Year Means New Favorites! - Shop The Marion Collection

With roots in our classic stapled collection, Marion delivers Dansko all-day comfort via a cushiony leather-wrapped footbed with our signature arch support. • Five Uncommon New Year’s Resolutions

By Brendan Carr on Friday, January 15, 2016

    Uncommon_Resolutions-04.jpg -

Happy New Year! The Dansko Blog is looking forward to bringing you another year full of great stories about your favorite shoes! The start of a new year makes it the perfect time to Celebrate New Beginnings. To kick off this month-long celebration of fresh starts, our first blog of 2016 shines a light on a few unconventional ideas for New Year’s resolutions.

In many ways a new year is a fresh start. It’s an opportunity to set new goals for continued personal and professional success. And most folks set their goals in the form of the infamous New Year’s resolution.  Instead of suggesting the typical resolutions like “exercise more”, “travel more” and “eat healthier foods”, The Dansko Blog is pleased to offer five uncommon ways to start the New Year off on the right foot.

    • Five Uncommon New Year’s Resolutions -

From exotic cuisine to long-forgotten family recipes, if you cook one diverse dinner each week you’ll expand your palette and impress your guests. This resolution is also great to learn new cooking skills and sharpen your plating techniques, too. Invite family and friends over and start a new tradition!

    • Five Uncommon New Year’s Resolutions -

Instead of taking the usual route home from work, turn down a different street along the way and see where this new road leads you. By exploring new routes, you might discover a cool restaurant or local shop that you never knew existed – or perhaps you’ll just find a faster way home. Drive down a different road once a month during the year and you may be pleasantly surprised by what you’ll find. Just be sure you have a full tank of gas, a fully charged phone, and your GPS in case you get too off course.

    • Five Uncommon New Year’s Resolutions -

“I’m going to read more” is a popular New Year’s resolution but unfortunately it’s also one that often falls by the wayside. One way to stay on track is to read to your pet. Although it may seem like a highly unusual idea, many studies have shown that reading to dogs and cats is a great way to reach your reading goals, shed stress, and interact with pets. Plus, reading to pets also helps bolster public speaking, build a better vocabulary, and, best of all, encourage children to read, too.

    • Five Uncommon New Year’s Resolutions -

Thanks to the convenience of smartphone cameras and instant access to social media, folks are snapping and sharing pictures all the time. Instead of taking awkward selfies and blurry portraits, make 2016 the year that you branch out and embrace your artistic side. Take photos from different angels. Test out filters. Use accessories and settings to help tell a story. When you experiment with photography, you’ll gain a whole new perspective of the big picture.

    • Five Uncommon New Year’s Resolutions -

Being bold doesn’t mean you have to go cliff diving or run with the bulls. You can be bold by stretching your style boundaries. Don’t be intimidated by fashions that are outside your comfort zone. Dare to wear new styles, patterns and colors!

These are just a few top resolutions to help make 2016 a great year. There are plenty of other fun resolutions out there just waiting to be discovered. So what are you waiting for? The New Year has begun. It’s time to begin your uncommon New Year’s resolution!

  • What We Do to Stay Comfortable!

By Brendan on Monday, November 23, 2015

    comfortActivities_post-01.jpg -

We’re celebrating comfort all month long at The Dansko Blog! This week, a few of our team members spent some time with The Dansko Blog to talk about their favorite hobbies and activities!

It’s that time of the year – the brief period of calm before the busy, hectic holiday season kicks in. Before your schedules are quickly filled with holiday parties, shopping trips, and travel plans, now is the time to enjoy the hobbies that help you unwind, de-stress and get comfortable.

The Dansko Blog recently asked team members which traditional and non-so-traditional activities and hobbies help them achieve a higher plane of comfortability. Here’s what they had to say!

    • What We Do to Stay Comfortable! -

      Angie T. – Accounts Receivable

“Exercise has always been important to me. I started out exercising in my early 20’s with my mom.  About 10-13 years ago, it was getting harder to make it to exercise classes once my daughter started playing soccer.  I didn’t want to give up my hobby so I had to find a way to fit it into my schedule. That’s when I turned to running because it fits my busy schedule better and I can do it anytime.

Now, my husband, daughter and I all run together. It has become a big part of our family time and we enjoy the “friendly” competition.  It’s my favorite hobby. I put on my music and the world seems to be mine. When I finish a run, I feel better, breathe easier, and things seem so much clearer.  I can tell when I’ve had a stressful day because I run a little faster and a little harder. But by the end, I have this great feeling of accomplishment.  What upset me before doesn’t seem to be as big of a deal after a run.”

    • What We Do to Stay Comfortable! -

      Brian G. – Distribution Center

“I first became interested in photography when I was in elementary school. About 20 years ago, my mom gave me a little 210 film camera. After cutting my teeth on that camera, I purchased my first high-end camera.  Eventually I moved from shooting on film to digital photography.

What I most enjoy most about photography is creating and capturing images. When I finally capture that perfect moment, it gives me such a tremendous sense of accomplishment. Photography is my version of meditation. I love nature photography the most. Walking through the woods, listening to the sounds of the stream or the wind blowing through the trees – that’s when I feel most at peace.”

    • What We Do to Stay Comfortable! -

      Lisa H. – Purchasing

“When I want to relax, I work out. I’ve always enjoyed exercise but I became more serious about working out when I joined the track, basketball and lacrosse teams in middle school. Since that time, working out has become a big part of my weekly routine. Being the mother of three kids keeps me busy, so a trip to the gym is “my time”. After working out, I feel more energized and focused – and that makes me ready for whatever craziness the next day or week may bring.”

    • What We Do to Stay Comfortable! -

Nick L. – Quality Support and Steve L. – Distribution Center

“Since as far back as we can remember, we’ve both shared a love for music and it brought us closer together and helped form a lot of lasting friendships. Both of us enjoy just about every genre and style of music. Although we grew up on Rock, we also expanded our musical tastes to include Funk, Pop, Reggae, Metal, Country, and Rap.

Our love of music led to us playing music. When we were five years old, we both started playing drums. Then we started playing other instruments. We formed our first band in middle school and we’ve played in many others since then.

Being in a band is fun because you get to jam with your best friends and then share the sound you create with others. With music, you have to concentrate on what you’re playing or it all falls apart. When your mind’s focused on the music then you tend to forget about any negative stuff that goes on around you. You just focus on making the music sound the best that it can while having a good time with your friends, meeting new people and sharing that experience with everyone!

There’s no better feeling in the world than getting a great reaction from people when you put on a good show or play them a song that you just recorded.  That feeling of appreciation not only lets you know that you’re doing a good job, it proves that all the time you spend playing music is worth it.”

How do you stay comfortable during the build-up to the holidays? Share your images or posts on social media using #HOWISTAYCOMFY.

  • Eat Your Way Through A Healthy Day, Part IV: Dinner

By Nick on Friday, March 13, 2015

    HomeBeccanomics_8.jpg -

We’ve tasted protein-rich muffins for breakfast, sipped on savory black bean soup for lunch and snacked on pears, cheese and healthy no-bake cookies for an afternoon pick-me-up. Now, we’re ready to seal the deal with a delicious dinner entrée: mini prosciutto-wrapped turkey meatloves, courtesy of Becca Boyd and her blog, Homebeccanomics.

If you’ve followed us throughout our “Eat Your Way Through A Healthy Day Series,” you know a little something about Becca’s recipes: they taste delicious, and they support healthy living—a value we happen to share with our “master chef.” Becca’s recipes will keep you eating healthy, and our shoes will keep you walking healthy, promoting positive foot, leg and back health.

Ready for dinner? Fire up the stove! A delicious prosciutto and turkey dinner is waiting for you.
    • Eat Your Way Through A Healthy Day, Part IV: Dinner -

      MINI PROSCIUTTO WRAPPED TURKEY MEATLOAVES

From Becca: Lastly, what’s for dinner? I used to teach my students that 60% of their calories should be eaten before 1 pm. If you think about it, why do we eat these huge dinners only to sleep all night? Dinner is usually the healthiest meal in our house (and thus, the one my 3-year-old daughter gives us the hardest time over). Here is a high protein dinner option that I’d serve with a tossed salad; to make a meal manageable and fun I expend extra energy on only one item. And lastly, make extra of these to freeze, and you’ll have lunch for next week as well!
      Makes 12

      Ingredients:

      1 tbsp. olive oil
      2 medium onions, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced or pressed through garlic press
      2 eggs
      1 1/2 dried thyme
      1 tsp. salt
      1/2 -3/4 honey mustard, divided
      1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
      2 2/3 lb. ground turkey
1 c. lowfat plain Greek yogurt
      1 c. crushed saltine crackers (about 22 crackers) *
      12 slices prosciutto (6 oz)
*Place them in a plastic ziplock bag and crush with a measuring cup or bowl.

      Directions:

Heat oven to 450 degrees. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and place a cooling wrap on top. Spray cooking rack with nonstick spray.
Heat oil in skillet and add onion. Saute over medium heat until softened and translucent, about 8 minutes. Add garlic and saute, stirring, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Remove from heat.
In a smaller mixing bowl, whisk eggs, thyme, salt, and 2 tbsp. of the honey mustard to combine.
In a larger mixing bowl, combine turkey, yogurt, onion/garlic, and cracker crumbs.
Add egg mixture to meat mixture and stir to combine.
With dampened hands, shape mixture into 12 loaves and place on prepared rack.
Rub about 1 tbsp. of honey mustard on each loaf. Wrap with prosciutto.
Bake in heated oven for 25 minutes. Let cool slightly and serve. To freeze, let cool completely and wrap each in foil wrap. Place wrapped loaves in a freezer gallon ziplock bag and freeze. To serve, thaw in fridge overnight and bake in 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or so or until thoroughly warmed through.

"I hope you found something interesting in these recipes – no need to sacrifice taste in the name of healthy eating. A big thank you to Dansko for showcasing my work, yet another reason I love the company! Any healthy eating questions or to reach me for any reason, email me at bdilullo@gmail.com."

      COCOA ALMOND NO-BAKE HEALTHY COOKIES

From Becca: I prefer to eat an early lunch and a substantial mid-afternoon snack. When I go more than four hours without eating I tend to open my cabinets and eat anything I can get my hands on (aka, insert spoon in chocolate hazelnut spread). Please put down the 100 calorie snack packs and eat something with some punch! Here are two options – one’s easy to pack and the other is best enjoyed at home.
      Makes about 30

      Ingredients:
      2/3 c. unsalted roasted almonds
      30 dates, pits removed
      1/2 c. unsweetened coconut flakes
      2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
      1/2 tsp. kosher salt
      1 tbsp. coconut oil
      2 tbsp. maple syrup

      Directions:
Pulse almonds in food processor until finely chopped.
Add remaining ingredients. Pulse/process until combined, about 20 seconds.
Roll into 1 inch balls and place on plate or cookie sheet. Freeze for twenty minutes. Once frozen, place in tupperware container or ziplock bag. Store in fridge or freezer.
    • Eat Your Way Through A Healthy Day, Part III: Afternoon Snacks -

PEARS WITH BLUE CHEESE AND HONEY
      Serves 2-4

      Ingredients:
2 ripe pears, halved and core scooped out
Chunk of blue or gorgonzola cheese
      Honey
      Directions:
      1. Slice and prepare pears. Crumble cheese over top. Drizzle with honey.

Stay tuned for Becca’s final recipe: Mini Prosciutto Wrapped Turkey Meatloaves.
