  • Five Handy Tips When Packing for a Trip

By Brendan Carr on Monday, April 25, 2016

    TravelTipsA1.jpg -

This April, The Dansko Blog celebrates travel! Our next stop: a handy guide to packing your bags!

Everyone looks forward to taking a trip to a favorite spot or a new vacation destination. But there’s one thing we’re pretty sure everyone dreads: packing their bags. As if trying to figure out the right amount of appropriate clothing to pack wasn’t daunting enough, you’re also confronted by the task of figuring out what else you need to bring. Then, after your essentials are in order, there is the challenge of fitting everything in the fewest bags possible. Once you’re packed and out the door, you’ll no doubt experience the sneaking suspicion that you forgot something very important.

Don’t despair! The Dansko Blog is here to offer five great tips that will curb the frustration and worry that often accompanies packing for a trip.

    • Five Handy Tips When Packing for a Trip -

      1) Lists are Lifesavers

Before you take the suitcase out of the closet, make a list of everything you need to pack. Then as you pack the suitcases and carry-ons, check each item off the list. After you’re done packing, double check your list. This process helps ensure that no essential is left behind.

    • Five Handy Tips When Packing for a Trip -

      2) Follow the Rules

If it’s been a few years since you’ve last flown, be sure to visit the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website to review the list of items that are prohibited from air travel. No one wants something as common as an aerosol can or a bottle of shampoo to disrupt their travel plans.

    • Five Handy Tips When Packing for a Trip -

      3) Roll Instead of Fold

Cramming clothes in a suitcase is a lesson in futility. More often than not, many travelers are faced with making last minute apparel-based judgment calls. But there is an easy solution to this dilemma: roll your clothes instead of folding them. When clothes are rolled, it frees up room in the suitcase and makes it easier to accommodate all your vacation apparel (like your multiple pairs of Dansko shoes). As an added bonus, rolled clothes travel better and leave fewer wrinkles.

    • Five Handy Tips When Packing for a Trip -

      4) Put a Lock on It

To keep the contents of your luggage safe and secure, the best thing to do is put a lock on each bag. TSA recognized locks are recommended for two reasons: 1) Each lock features a combination that is known only to the bag owner; 2) If a bag has to be opened and physically inspected by a security official, the lock can be opened by the official via a TSA skeleton key. If a common lock is used and officials have to open the bag for inspection, they will be forced to cut the lock off.

    • Five Handy Tips When Packing for a Trip -

      5) Find It Faster with Luggage Tags

Misplaced luggage tops the list of travel worries. If this unfortunate situation occurs, you can help officials locate your missing luggage in a timely manner by attaching tags to your bags. But be sure to include only the important information. For your safety, never list your address, home phone number or primary email account on a tag. To protect your identity, list only your name, cell phone number and an email address for an account that you have specifically created for this type of scenario. Luggage tags also help you quickly identify your belongings on busy baggage carousels.

Now that you have these five helpful tips, you can pack your bags with ease and concentrate on the really important stuff like having a wonderful and memorable vacation!

  • Five Dancing Tips and One Stylish Sandal for your Latin Dancing Routine

By Nick on Wednesday, August 06, 2014

    LatinDancing-01.jpg -

From San Francisco to Philadelphia, summer nights present the perfect opportunity to leave the house and experience the warm outdoors. Neighborhood walks, outdoor meals and evening hikes often fill our agendas, though a new summer phenomenon has started to surface: outdoor Latin dancing. Towns and cities nationwide have caught on to the craze, encouraging dancers to “move and groove” under the stars.

At Dansko, we’re always looking for an excuse to show off our best moves. This got us thinking: which Dansko style would we choose for a night of dancing?

With a striking cross-strap design, gorgeous full-grain leather upper and on-trend wedge heel with stud detailing, our Frida sandal effortlessly fits the bill. But Frida offers more than just style: a memory foam insert and breathable leather socklining will keep you moving from the first dance, to the last dance, to dinner and dessert, all in one stylish pair of sandals. So, what are you waiting for? Strap up those sandals and hit the dance floor. We’ll see you there.

Before you embark on your night of swinging and rumbaing, we’d love to share a few tips for your next performance. Time to practice—summer won’t last forever!

    • Five Dancing Tips and One Stylish Sandal for your Latin Dancing Routine -

      1. Pick a style—and stick to it! Whether you choose the Cha Cha, Danza or ever-popular Salsa, we recommend learning one style before attempting another. If you try too many styles at once, you may confuse your steps!

      2. Focus on your feet. Before you think about your hips, or even your arms, you will want to master the most important element of Latin dance—your footwork. Develop your dance steps, incorporate your hips and arms, and dance away.

      3. Learn the intricacies of leading and following. For Latin dances to work cohesively, leaders must know when to lead and followers must know when to follow. Picture yourself in a conversation with your partner; always tune into his or her moves, and anticipate when to respond.
    • Five Dancing Tips and One Stylish Sandal for your Latin Dancing Routine -

      4. Stay positive (and confident). Once you learn the ins and outs of basic Latin dance, the steps (and spins) will become second nature. Stay confident, and let your feet guide you from start to finish. As soon as you begin to second-guess yourself, the rhythm will become harder to follow!

      5. Dance with people of all abilities. Virtually every Latin dance requires a partner. So why not test your skills with a pro—and perfect your moves with a beginner? By practicing with a wide range of partners, you will learn all the intricacies of rhythmic dance.

We hope you practice your skills this summer—and use our tips to become a Latin dance pro! Get outside and enjoy a free-spirited night of dancing in comfort and style.
