The parking lot pavement is pervious meaning water can penetrate its surface naturally filtering back into the water table. In addition, grassy areas at the perimeters not only allow for overflow parking but also serve as rain gardens. Rain gardens have underground chambers to collect rainwater and allow water to slowly absorb into the ground rather than running off into streambeds. There are also rain gardens in the center of the parking area. All this planning helps reduce the impact on our storm water management system.
